At times, all we need is a bowl of hearty beef stew to make us happy! Served on fragrant fluffy jasmine rice or alongside home-baked bread, it's a feast of flavors.
The attractive color comes from the tomato and Worchester sauce! The acidity of tomato, the aroma of Italian herb seasoning, the earthy vegetable taste, and the meatiness of beef make it a wholesome dish.
The slow-cooking process extracts the flavors of each ingredient deliciously. A cup of red wine may be added to infuse more flavor. Besides veggies, butter-sauteed mushrooms taste incredible in the hearty beef stew.

Ingredients
120g | 2 packets of No Rush freeze-dried beef cubes
1 Tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
1 carrot (peeled & chopped)
1 onion (chopped)
1 celery stick (chopped)
2 garlic cloves (minced)
200g | 1 can tomato sauce
2 tsp Worchester sauce
1 tsp cornstarch
3 cups of low-sodium beef broth
1 Tbsp Italian dried herb seasoning
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp brown sugar
Salt and pepper (to taste)
1 cup baby potatoes (halved)
¼ cup green peas
2 Tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)
Directions
Start by rehydrating the beef cubes. Soak the freeze-dried beef cubes in water for 15-20 minutes.
Drizzle a frying pan with oil. Let it heat over a medium-high flame.
Add the rehydrated beef cubes and season with salt. Sear for 7-10 minutes until browned on all sides while stirring frequently. Remove into a stew pot.
Heat some more vegetable oil in the same pan.
Add the garlic and saute for 15-20 seconds.
Next, add the chopped carrots, onions, and celery. Stir fry for 5-6 minutes. Then, transfer it into the stew pot.
Place the stew pot on the stove on medium heat. Pour in the tomato sauce, Worchester sauce, beef broth, paprika, sugar, Italian herb seasoning, salt, & pepper. Mix well.
In a bowl, mix the cornstarch with a bit of water. Stir it into the stew until combined without any lumps.
Bring the stew to a rolling boil over high heat. Cover the pot, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer for 1 hour.
After that, uncover and add the halved baby potatoes and green peas. Continue to cover and cook for 20-25 more minutes or until the potatoes soften.
Finally, serve the beef stew garnished with freshly chopped parsley.
Recipe Note
After searing the beef cubes, pour half a cup of water and deglaze the frying pan. Pour the liquid into the pot. This will save the veggies from sticking to the pan while frying.
